Start with a visit to the Temple of Literature. Originally built in honour of Confucius in 1070, a university was added six years later, providing education to the royal family and children of the aristocracy up until King Gia Long moved the capital from Hanoi to Hue at the beginning of the 19th century. Drop in to a traditional teahouse to taste some flavoured green teas, served with authentic snacks such as sweetened lotus seeds and green bean cake and listen to old stories explaining the significance of tea leaves to local cultures. Head to the Hoa Lo Prison museum. Used by French Colonists for political prisoners till 1954 and later by North Vietnam for American POWs, the prison complex was sarcastically nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton". Next up is the largest and oldest church in Hanoi, St Joseph's Cathedral with an architectural style often compared to Notre Dame de Paris. Continue to the heart of Hanoi, Hoan Kiem Lake, with its magnificent The Huc Bridge and Ngoc Son temple.

04 Day: Siem Reap – Floating Village and the Killing Fields (B)
After breakfast, Take a boat trip on the Tonle Sap, Cambodia's unique 'Great Lake'. During the dry months the lake may be around 2500 square kilometres in size. But in the rainy season its size can quadruple. A bumper crop of freshwater fish results making the lake a most important source of nutrition for all Cambodians. Visit Chong Khneas village supporting a community of Khmer and Vietnamese inhabitants. The village consists of dwellings anchored to the lake bed, with a floating school, police station, and shops. A visit to a crocodile farm is included. On the way back to Siem Reap stop by one of the infamous 'killing fields', a chilling reminder of Khmer Rouge misrule between 1975 - 1979. Finally visit Artisan D' Angkor where skilled Khmer artists carve wood and stone. The products for sale support communities and are authentic Cambodian souvenirs.

05 Day: Siem Reap – Full Day Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat (B)
Your local guide will be ready to meet you in the hotel lobby to begin this full day tour of the Angkor complex. The tour will include a visit of Angkor Thom, royal capital of prolific builder Jayavarman VII, dating from the late twelfth century. Most striking of the monuments is the Bayon, a mountain of face-towers, said to be the likeness of the king himself, viewing his realm in all directions. Outside of Angkor Thom, view the remains of Ta Prohm which has been left as it was rediscovered, entwined by strangler-figs. In the afternoon visit the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat, state-temple of Suriyavarman II, from the early 12th century and the largest religious monument on earth. A late afternoon view may be taken from the Phnom Bakeng.

06 Day: Siem Reap - Private Full Day Beng Mealea Tour (B)
Beng Mealea lies some two hours drive from the main Angkor complex at Siem Reap, lost in the jungle. The journey passes through typical Khmer countryside via lively villages and along kilometres of rice paddies. Explore the long abandoned temple which is thought to date from the end of the 11th century, or the beginning of the 12th century. As with Ta Prohm, the remains of the one square kilometre site are overrun with vegetation. Strangler figs sprout through masonry, their talon-like roots grasping ancient walls. It is believed that this Hindu temple was constructed during the reign of Suryavarman II. Some experts consider that it may be a prototype for the for the more ambitious Angkor Wat, a place where skills were honed for that massive project. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the temple grounds before the afternoon return to Siem Reap.
